About

We are an established track and field team called North Wake Track Club. It is a member of the North Carolina Association of the United States of America Track & Field organization (USAT&F). This is the youth program of the Junior Olympics in which we participate in Cross Country, Indoor Track & Outdoor Track & Field.

Since our team’s formation in June 2007, our team has grown to a size of 40+. We practice usually two to three times a week @ North Raleigh Christian Academy’s track in the afternoons after school during outdoor track season and at Greenway behind NRCA during Cross Country season.

We offer parents and kids from ages 6-18 the opportunity to join a growing and vibrant team that not only builds athletic skills, but competitiveness, character, and leadership and responsibility. It is an opportunity for your child to learn the importance of fitness, health and education through fun and interactive programs.

Our team has had a tremendous impact in the area and had a continuous series of accomplishments, both as a team and individually. Since the team’s inception, we have had numerous State Champions and National qualifiers in Cross Country as well as Track & Field

USATF Junior Olympics

Dating back to the mid-1960’s, the USATF Junior Olympic program is the most visible youth athlete developmental program in the world. Nearly 70,000 youth athletes compete each year in the Junior Olympic Track & Field and Cross Country programs. Many of America’s Olympians began as youth athletes, including stars such as Maurice Greene, Allyson Felix, Bryan Clay, John Godina, Deena Kastor, and Allen Johnson.

Progressional events

Through a series of progressional events consisting of preliminary, Association, and Regional meets, athletes have the opportunity to advance to the National Championships in track & field and cross country. Once USATF members, athletes can enter the Junior Olympics either as part of a USATF club or as “unattached.” Competition takes place in 2-year age divisions, from 10 & under through 17-18.

Cross Country & Track & Field

Cross country dates back to the turn of the 20th century as an Olympic Sport when it was contested as a team and individual event at the 1904, 1912, 1920 and 1924 Summer Games. The Olympic spirit is still alive in the sport today as thousands of youth athletes compete throughout the fall in USATF’s Junior Olympic Cross Country program.
